I Stunk

Yep folks. I stunk at my tatting class last night. BUT I keep telling everyone, I will perservere! LOL I will master and not be mastered....blahblahblah. LOL I am used to "getting it". And I just didn't. I know part is my sickness and the problems I have retaining and concentrating, but part was, I was just too caught up on doing it perfect and not making mistakes. I was basically one uptight-wannabe-tatter. But thankfully this is a series of classes. And I was given this book in class to study. And study.
I have a sore throat. Mark has a sore throat. Toby kept coughing this morning, I kid you not! How is your throat? There must be something going around. Go drink some orange juice just in case. Mommy said. :o)

Stick with it...and have fun. Even if it's not perfect, if you enjoy doing it, then DO it!

It gets better, but there are still things I don't understand about tatting. It looks so beautiful when it goes well, though, doesn't it? Pat is right, just have fun. I had a lot more fun with that stupid purple heart when I just put the pattern away and did what I wanted with it. Of course, it doesn't look like a heart...

For me.. 80% of my crafting is the comraderie we get from our crafting buddies.. the fun we have being together and learning something new.. as with anything it just takes practice.. but you can sure have fun while you do it. I think we can never have too many crafting buddies :)

I want to tell you that I tihnk I tied a thousand knots before my hands were able to have the tension right to "flip" the stitch. I shuttle tat and I looked at alot of pictures. check out some you tube tutorials. Lots of practice is how I learned. Good Luck!

i envy your learning to tat. it has always been one of those things i want to be able to do, but have never found an opportunity. keep practicing!

I do shuttle tatting rather than needle tatting. I know how I just prefer the shuttle. If you knit, think of needle tatting as knit one, purl one, then after so many stitches pull the needle through the cast on stitches. It's not so hard. Picots are just spaces between stitches.

Good for you for trying something new! I am always afraid to try...and then when I do get it down...I kick myself for waiting too long. This winter I am supposed to start painting my own candle containers...hopefully soon.

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

The hardest part is only at the beginning, that is making the 'flip' if you use a shuttle to tat. There is no flipping with needles but personally, I always prefer shuttles. Please, keep on with it. After a few more tries you'll be thinking, "what was the fuss all about?", LOL. And the results are worth it.
